Products made to conquer any trail
Easy to install, high quality and works as expected. If I take care of it, I think it will out last my last Rocky Mounts rack (15 years) which still works. Just wanted something where the front wheel stays on. Great products that last.
I have had these for years now... in humid Georgia USA... mounted to the OEM crossbars of a 2014 Subaru Outback.
I just did a once over maintenance on them and was surprised by the limited amount of wear... including nearly no discoloration of the plastic.
Back to smooth-as-butter operation after lubricating everything with chain wax.
Only loose bolts were the four mounting the tray halves so, I used orange Permatex on those.
I add stainless lock washers under the arm's bolts to make that tension what is right for me.
Finally, I use sections of road tire on the wheel straps because I hear anyone's strap may mar a composite/carbon fiber rim over time.
Yes, I would be these again... and will look to RockMounts first for future needs.
I bought this for the top of my Subaru Impreza hatchback. It works fantastically. I have had it for three seasons now and have hauled my road bike, my mountain bike, and fat bikes beautifully. Does not shake or rattle at all. Works perfectly.
I’ve had dual Tomahawk’s on my vehicle(s) for FIVE years now. The same ones. I currently have them mounted on my MK7 GLI with OEM VW cross bars. Before that, these were on an Inno traditional square-bar rack on my Ford Fiesta and they lived on Thule bars on my van for a while. Point is, is that they fit any rack out there. These things are not super easy to take on and off, and they are heavy. So I tend to leave them on year-round. These things are amazing. I’ve had everything from Fat Bikes, 26er’s, my 29er, my 27.5 AND a 700c hybrid bike up there. It takes everything. I use these 1-3 times a week for 5 years straight. Still going strong. Just recently, I took them off, took them apart and greased everything and all of the hardware. 1 bolt snapped from rust, but that’s just my fault for leaving them on the car for years and not servicing them at all.
Now they are greased up and clean and ready for another 5 years on top of my car. Love em.
I decided I wanted to take our two fat tire bikes with us to Key West from Savannah - about 10 hours with stops mostly high speed freeway.
I wanted the option of being able to easily remove the racks after used but also securely lock my racks. I added a lock kit which has a single key for all 4 locks.
It was easy to load up out 2 bikes and keep all our vehicle space free for the rest of our gear. I was able to monitor the bikes through the sun roof and even though it was a breezy ride - 15-20 MPH winds, the bikes remained tight.
I don't like to haul gear on my car and this was an easy choice.
I will enjoy using these for years to come. Thank you.
