    Great rack but

Posted by Matt Stavins on Apr 20th 2020

I enjoy using this rack. When I received it there was minor damage on some of the plastic area. I ended up having patch it up because it covered some of the mechanical parts. Also wish there was 2 different pin holes sizes. My receiver hole is one size larger than the pin hole in the rack. The convenience of the rack is unreal. Love beating my buddies packing up after riding. And the tilt feature is rad.

    really secure in hitch

Posted by Rider in Texas on Oct 29th 2019

Looked hard at this, the Kuat NV and the T2 Pro. Pulled the trigger on this as it was on sale for $449. I did not go to any stores, a few of my buddies have rockymounts and were happy with them. It arrived two days later and i put it together in about 20 minutes. Assembly was pretty straight forward (i do not like reading manuals). I used my own allen wrenches as the ones supplied are the usual cheap ones companies include when they are only needed once. The wheel trays nest really well in the CNC pockets of the main body and are secured with burly 8mm bolts, this feels really secure. Bolting the arms on took a bit longer, but were also secure after installation. What surprised me the most was when I tightened into the hitch. I do a lot of towing and everything always rattles around. When I tightened the bolt to attach to the car, the whole rack was rock solid and did not wiggle at all, I was really surprised at how well this worked. I have only used the rack a few times, but looking in the rear view mirror, the bike was stable and did not move around like my old rack. the only thing I did not like was the cable lock. I have an expensive bike and am fearful of it getting stolen. cables are easy to cut, I looked for a rack with a chain, but no one makes one.

    Looks Great, Works Even Better

Posted by Jacob on Sep 4th 2019

This is one of the best looking bike racks I see in the parking lots. Compared to other brands, it looks like rockymounts took more time for aesthetics which is great. As for functionality, it is incredible. The blue lever to go from "stow away" to horizontal to angled down works very well and is in the perfect spot. I use all 3 modes all of the time and really appreciate how smoothly it switches between the 3, even with bikes loaded. The wheel hooks have a very solid click and are easy to release, while the wheel straps are done well- nothing too complicated but they work flawlessly. The hook to get the wheel straps out of the way when loading is a subtle but awesome feature. The 3-axis stabilization works just as advertised, although there is some up and down movement from the joint connected to the blue lever. It fits my size large, pretty long mtb and 58 cm road race bike without a problem. I bought it on sale for $400, but would have been perfectly happy paying the full price of $550.

    Great rack

Posted by Michael on Aug 23rd 2019

The rack is rock solid in terms of build. I purchased a couple of add ons to make it a 4 bike carrier. With the add on installed it makes it a heavy unit, not the type you take on and off a vehicle, better left on. This leads to my biggest complaint. With the add ons installed it makes the release for tilting harder to reach. Personally I have long arms so not a problem for me, but my wife can not reach it. She has to basically climb underneath to reach the release then use her back to push up. This makes it hard to leave on her vehicle all the time. If we only had the carrier and no add ons this would be awesome. Built in locks are a nice feature. Holds bike securely and many sizes from 29er to kids 20".

    Excellent buy!

Posted by Christopher on Aug 15th 2019

I had a little bit of analysis paralysis going before finally purchasing this rack. I researched and/or tried every make and model I could get my hands on and was wondering if I would ever pull the trigger. I finally made the call and I could not be happier with the Splitrail LS! It is rock solid on the hitch, no wobbling at all even on dirt roads. It holds a variety of different sized bikes with ease (so far 29er, road bike, kids bikes, etc) with little to no adjustments. Easy access to trunk with bikes on or off. And to top it off, it is the best value I could find when comparing with like competitors. Big thank you to RockyMounts team for answering all my pre-sales questions, great customer service and I send anyone who asks your way!

    Buy this Rack

Posted by James L on Jul 24th 2019

Design is great - low profile, including ability to open hatchback with empty rack in the up position. I would assume this is vehicle specific. The ease of getting rack to loading position is so simple and can be done with one hand, no cotter pins to remove and replace. The arms move easily out of the way and provide for easy loading of bikes. The integrated cable lock in each arm is really cool design feature. Highly recommend this rack!

    good clearance!

Posted by Jonathan on Apr 22nd 2019

MY old thule t2 was pretty old and i needed a new one. the thule one worked well (it rusted quickly was my only complaint), but the large issue i had was dragging on the ground going in and out of my driveway. i have a subaru outback with a 2" hitch and the end of the rack was getting really beat up dragging on the ground when pulling out of a hill or decline (my driveway or parking garage). this one from rockymounts solved the problem. it is angled up and the end is higher than my old rack. rest of the rack works well, i really like the storage hook, my old one was always in the way on the garage floor, this one came with a bracket and stores nicely on the wall out of the way. would buy again.
